I expect the DTM cars to match or better the pace of GT3 cars, since they are basically racecars designed from the ground off

The dtm cars are probably a bit quicker than a gt3 car and the megane and BMW are probably somewhere between a gt4 and a gt3.

The first two both run in the creventic 24hr series against gt3 machines, and for the dtM boys they run at oscheshcleben which the adac gt masters run at, also with gt3 so should give you an idea. I would be more helpful but I’m on mobile at work so sneaky sneaky reply rather than a ful answer sorry

Eh, I can wait. Just need some comparable times so I can see where they stack up.

Right, lets start with the GC Autmobiles BMW V8 Spaceframe car at the Dubai 24hrs from January.

That managed a 2.07.314 as a best lap. I think the SP2 class is joker free and over 24 hours it must have had at least 1 clear lap so thats probably a fairly representative 1 lap pace. Looking at its laps very quickly seemed to lap at or around the 2.10s. The fastest lap by any GT3 car in the race was a 1.59.212 by the WRT Audi R8 (new car), with most of the GT3 pack getting to a 2.00 flat lap. Results and fastest laps here: Link

The Scirocco is also a GC Automobile GC10-V8 so under the skin is the same as the 1 series. Sadly I cant find any race series that its in, so cant get and good data on him.

DTM Cars will be using the Hockenheim times from April, and all 3 manufacturers got cars into the 1.35s, with the fastest being the 1.35.463 of the AMG C63. Race 2 has the same number of cars in the mid 1.35s so thats pretty close/representative i would say. That was a fully dry race.

The ADAC GT masters visited at the end of last year, and was also a dry race so a pretty fair comparison. click the little download button to see their full results with fastest laps. The fastest lap was set by an R8 LMS Ultra, so the older spec car, and that was a 1.40.757. No other car got below a 1.41.

So the DTM Cars are slightly quicker it seems. That isn’t such a surprise, as they are trying to converge with Japanese Super GT GT500 cars, which are a class above the GT3 cars which run in the GT300 class out in Japan. Super GT cars are the fastest GT cars by some considerable margin though, and at a track like Fuji would start to trouble LMP1 privateer cars.

Aaaaand that took me way longer to write than I had intended.

So the silhouette BMW and Scirocco are as good as Cup cars, while DTM is more or less GTE race pace (from what I can extrapolate) with probably less longevity. Super GT runs about LMP2 race pace considering qualifying pace betters Rebellion in Fuji, but longevity is slightly better than DTM, though still less than GTE.

See, I got this basic database for a revival & re-master of SCUD Race , and I was looking to compile as many GT-class cars as possible, starting from BPR until today.

Yeah the two silhouette cars were running pretty close to the 997/991 cup cars. I would guess that puts them pretty much bang on a GT4 pace, maybe a little faster.

DTM uses a control tyre which is designed to degrade (eugh) where as Super GT is an open tyre formula with a tyre war though.

ELMS was doing 1.25s at Red Bull Ring last year, with DTM doing 1.23.5s so yeah fairly close between the twon (both race fastest laps)

Right, I forgot that the tire differences really lend well to pushing the limits of pace for Super GT.

And Super GT does run 3-hour and 6-hour races, so, outright, they do last longer than DTM.
